Clip, dissolve, reproject, zonal statistics, and any algorithm in the QGIS Processing Toolbox.
Results land as temporary layers first. Nothing is overwritten until you click Apply.
Every action comes with the Python behind it (PyQGIS today), so you can learn from it or reuse it.
